Be it a vacation, retreat, getaway or just a much needed break, a road trip can help you rejuvenate. Our recent Georgia journey took us to the diverse and beautiful historic city of Banning Mills.
This road trip is less than an hour from Downtown Atlanta, just outside of Whitesburg, GA. Historic Banning Mills has someone for everyone. If you are an adventure seeker, you will enjoy the world’s longest and largest zip line canopy tour at the Banning Mills Adventure Park. The course has six levels that span almost 10 miles.
But if you prefer a quite walk with nature, you can take a stroll along one of the many nature trails at Historic Banning Mills. While you walk the trails through Snake Creek Gorge you will hear the rushing water of the Chattahoochee River. Canopy tours and kayaking are available throughout the day.
Banning Mills offers a separate camping area and comfortable on-site accommodations. Guests choose from rooms at the Lodge, cottages, cabins and Creekside Jacuzzi Rooms. They also have special services such as spa packages, wedding locations throughout the property, corporate events or training, and dining options, which are available for over-night guests.
Their commitment to supporting local artisans is to be highly commended. The Gift Shop displays hand-made gourds along with carved wooden bowls and walking sticks. H & H Farm supplies goat soaps and there are shelves laden with a variety of tasty delights, such as, FROG jam (made from figs, raspberries, oranges and ginger), syrups, honey cider and Mayhaw Jelly. Mayhaw is a berry found in the U.S. only in Southern Georgia’s swampy areas.
Whether visitors come for one day or stay for weeks at a time, they will leave refreshed and ready to go back into their daily routine. Check out the website at www.historicbanningmills.com and learn more about this unique non-profit retreat and conservation center, which combines both adventure and serenity in one.
